Review: Pattern Beauty

Happy Monday! I have a review for you guys today! We’re talking hair! Recently Tracee Ellis Ross debuted her hair care line, Pattern Beauty. This line is formulated specifically for hair types 3 and 4 and includes: shampoo, conditioner, a leave in, two serums, and hair care accessories.

I was extremely excited for this line for two reasons I LOVE Tracee Ellis Ross and the fact that the line was formulated specifically for hair types 3 and 4. If you don’t know the hair types here is a crash course:

Hair types are from 1 to 4 and they are further broken down within each type. For example type 3 hair is broken down into 3a, 3b, and 3c.

Type 1 is straight or little to no curl hair.

Type 2 is wavy hair.

Type 3 is curly hair.

Type 4 is coily hair.

Then the a, b, and c tell you the degree of tightness within each type. I’m a 3b. I have curly hair but my curls are in the middle they aren’t loose but they aren’t super tight. Once you’ve figured out your hair type then you’ll know which products to choose from the line.

The hydrating shampoo is for everybody and it’s name says it all. I absolutely love the shampoo and will repurchase. It does not strip my hair, it cleanses and leaves my hair feeling manageable.

I use the medium conditioner for curlies. The conditioner comes in medium, heavy, and intensive depending on your hair type. I feel like it does it’s job but there is nothing to set it apart from other conditioners on the market. I also HATE the smell. The big pro is that the conditioners come in larger sizes, not the exact same size as the shampoo, because all curlies know that the shampoo to conditioner ratio is never the same. We use waaaaay more conditioner than shampoo and the bottle sizes reflect that! Great job there!

I picked up the leave in conditioner as well. Again this one is the same as the in shower conditioner nothing special here. I’ve got other leave ins that do the job for me and again the smell here is not great. I will finish what I have but there are better leave ins out there for me.

The line also includes: two hair serums, an in shower brush,  a microfiber towel, and a hair clip. The best thing about the line is the minis! If you just want to try it out or you want travel sizes Pattern has you covered.

Overall I’m highly pleased with the product line because of the direction behind it and the message. Tracee Ellis Ross definitely knew what she was doing with this development. I feel like this is definitely a FUBU moment (for us by us). Tracee created this product line out of necessity. She grew up and has gone through trials and tribulations with her hair as most of us have and she decided to do something about it and I commend her!

I think Pattern Beauty is a step in the right direction for hair care for textured hair. It is definitely worthy of product shelves everywhere. Although every product didn’t work for me I cannot say enough great things about this line, the message behind the line, and the creation of this line. #RockYourPattern

First Impressions: Fashionfile

Hey hey everybody. This is a post I’m really excited about. I’m on a journey to build my luxury bag collection and I’ve put a lot of thought into what brands I want, the type of bags, and where I want to get them from.

Let me start by saying Pre Loved is the best thing that ever happened to the world! Let me explain: in the world of sustainable fashion, especially luxury fashion you are going to come across “pre loved” items, pre owned, or used. The best thing about luxury fashion is that a lot of the pieces are investments so their previous owners take very good care of them. In most cases you are finding items with minimal wear well below retail price if you play your cards right.

I have mapped out an entire strategy for how I will build my collection and a major component is pre loved items and where to get them from. There are a ton of resale sites out there for luxury designers. I’ve checked out many to compare price and variety. I decided to make my first purchase from Fashionfile.

Fashionfile is a resale site for luxury fashion items. They have clothes, handbags, jewelry, accessories, and menswear as well. Of all the resales sites I’ve researched Fashionfile seems to have the best selection and variety. Now depending on the item you are looking for you could find a better price elsewhere but that’s why you research first.

I decided that I was going to buy a Louis Vuitton Speedy second hand because it was a bag I knew I wanted in my collection but not something I felt warranted me paying full retail for, just because they are fairly common. I found lots of speedies in various sizes, colors, and patterns. At this point it was who has the best price and the best condition bag.

Fashionfile became an instant favorite because their website is user friendly, the pictures of the bags are extremely high quality, you can follow items you are interested in and are notified if they go on sale or are sold and when they come back in stock. Like I said the Speedy is common so I did some comparison shopping but I landed on Fashionfile because the bag was in the best condition and the pictures were so great! Oh and free shipping.

I purchased my bag and it came pretty quick in the mail (about a week). Fashionfile has the cutest packaging. My bag came in a fashionfile dust bag, with a Fashionfile nail file (get it), and the cutest notes and cards about my purchase. The bag was in the exact condition is said. Everything was perfect!

I was a little skeptical about buying pre loved to begin with especially with a site I’d never used but the quality of what I received was amazing and to top it off Neiman Marcus is an investor in Fashionfile so I figured I wasn’t going to get ripped off.

All in all I definitely recommend Fashionfile. If you are thinking of starting your luxury bag collection but don’t know where to start peruse a few resale sites and stay tuned for my post where I break down my strategy for starting my collection.

Juvia’s Place Haul

Happy Sunday! Today I’m sharing my haul from Juvia’s Place!

I had a few products from Juvia’s Place already and I love this brand! I’m also extremely excited about the expanding they are doing with their product lines.

I ordered my products from the website but I bought the foundation at Ulta.

My thoughts: the eyeshadow palettes are everything! Very pigmented, great color themes, and very blendable! The highlighter is everything you want in a highlighter; beautiful and very complimentary. The foundation is going to take some getting used to. It’s full coverage and very thick, so a little goes a long way. This is definitely more of a winter foundation. I think I could be a fan but I need to use it a little more before I can be definitive.

Overall I love the theme of the brand and what it’s doing in the beauty community. Juvia’s Place is definitely a must have for every makeup collection.
