HomeGoods Haul & How I Styled It

Happy Sunday folks! I’m excited about this post because it’s INTERIORS!!! I feel like I don’t post enough interiors which is really where my passion is.

I went to HomeGoods and had a blast! Here are a few items I bought:

And here is how I styled them:

I’m really into blue right now. So this is how I incorporated it into my living area. I feel like it still gives a fall look even though it’s not your typical fall color scheme. Also I kept it super cozy and still rich with texture.

How are you updating your home?

Self Care: It’s Important

Hello! Today I want to talk about self care. We know it’s important but why and what do you do for self care?

Let me clarify that self care and taking care of yourself are two different things. Taking care of yourself generally means eating, hygiene, and safety. Self care is about your wellbeing past the physical. We’re talking about mental and spiritual wellbeing.

When life gets heavy what do you do to disconnect and decompress? Life comes at us hard everyday and you really can only take so much before it starts to effect you physically, mentally, and emotionally. You’re not your best when you are run down in anyway but a lot of us don’t take time for self care.

I don’t know if people don’t see the importance or don’t count it as one of those things that you need to do to be healthy but it’s important. Just like eating healthy, being active, taking vitamins are all things that are meant to keep you feeling good and working properly so is self care.

Things I do for self care:

Read- sometimes I need a break from constant media stimulation

Listen to music and sing along or have a dance party

Go outside for a walk especially when the weather is cool!

Eat junk food and I don’t feel bad about it or beat myself up.

Pamper myself, whether it’s getting my nails done or soaking in the bathtub.

There are plenty more things I do for self care and honestly I try to do them as much as possible! Why? Because I love myself and I want to enjoy my time to the fullest. Life can be mean and hard on its own so I’m not going to deprive myself or be mean to myself. I’m going to get mine where ever I can! That’s not being selfish that’s taking control and living your best life! Who doesn’t want that?

What do you do for self care?

Why It’s OK to be a Product Junkie

Hey! Today we’re getting serious. Is your counter crowded? Your shelf stuffed? Your bathroom bombarded? OK enough with the alliterations. Are you a product junkie?

There is a major sigma attached to buying/using a lot of products.  I’m going to give you 5 reasons why it’s OK to be a product junkie.

1. You become a resource

You now have the knowledge of different products. Their positives and their negatives. You can make honest suggestions and give good advise!

2. Experimenting is a must!

You have to do a little experimenting with different products and brands to find what works best for you and your hair! Nobody knows your texture and routine better than you.

3. Support small businesses

This one is great because you get to find great off the radar products and support businesses that work really hard! Some of the best products I’ve used are from small businesses that aren’t all hyped up.

4.  Compensation for seasonal effects

The condition and needs of your hair change as the seasons change. When it’s dry and hot outside your hair may need more moisture. Sometimes oils are better in the winter versus the spring when the humidity is higher. Your hair’s needs change over time which could require different brands, products, or types of products.

5. It’s fun!

It’s fun to get and try new products. Period!

In moderation being a product junkie doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Say it with me “I am a product junkie and that’s OK”.

Top 5 Beauty Tips and Tricks

Hey hey! Today I’m giving you my top 5 best beauty tips and tricks. I’ve been using these like tricks for a while, it’s all trial and error. You have to find what works for you!

1. Use eyeshadow to carve out your brows.

Running late and don’t have time to use concealer to carve out your brows? No problem! Use a matte light or flesh colored eyeshadow to carve out and clean up your brows.

2. Pat in primer.

Never rub your primer into your skin. Pat it in. Primer is meant to be a shield between your skin and your makeup. The primer needs to sit on your face, fill pores and allow your makeup to show true to color and not seep into your face.

3. Wet blend cream products

Whether it’s a cream foundation, blush, contour, or eyeshadow wet blend is key! Sometimes bending dry can give a harsh line or just not melt into the skin the way you want. Take a setting spray or any facial spray and spray your face or the brush you are using to blend! It makes it easier and gives you a seamless blend.

4. Black eyeshadow hacks

Black eyeshadow can be very scary if used wrong but very versatile when used right! I use black eyeshadow as eyeliner when I don’t want a hard line or to fill in gaps on my lash line to make my lashes look fuller. Lastly the best hack, use black eyeshadow on your lower lashes in lieu of mascara so you don’t end up with scary spider lashes. #thankmelater

5. Let your mascara dry!

If you make a mistake let your mascara dry it can be swept right away with your brush no smudge.

Magnetic Lashes Might Be the Devil

Hey there! My latest beauty experiment was with magnetic lashes. I thought ok great this should be easy…. boy was I wrong.

I’ve struggled with fake lashes forever! Anything to make it easier I’m all for! I don’t typically wear fake lashes myself but my clients love them. I purchased the Ardell Magnetic Lashes in 110.

They claim on the  box to be easy to apply! You get two sets of lashes with magnetic strips on them. The idea is that they connect around your natural lashes. The directions say to lay the top lash on top of your lash line and then take the bottoms and connect.

Simple right? No! I didn’t have much luck with that technique so I tried a lash applicator, I was very excited about this technique…. it made it worse!

Finally I figured out that the ends need the most work and maneuvering. I went back to using my fingers and I got it!

This definitely takes practice but after this experience I feel like I will just sick to lashes and glue! I might feel differently trying this on a person rather than myself.

It might be a while before I touch the magnetic lashes again.

Have you tried them? Do you want to try them?

The Obstinate Daughter

Hey hey! Today I’m doing a restaurant review. I had Sunday brunch at The Obstinate Daughter in Sullivan’s Island, SC.

The Obstinate Daughter is a great little spot for amazing, eclectic food, awesome decor, and friendly, warm staff! They offer lunch, dinner, and brunch. They have fun items like cinnamon buns and seafood to pasta and pizza! They have food specials and awesome drinks as well.

I stopped in for brunch. I had the cinnamon bun which was huge and topped with pecans, the italian stallion pizza which was 11 inches of yummy goodness. It had just the right about of sauce, italian sausage and meatballs, topped with arugula. I washed it all down with a signature cocktail.

Of course there is a nice historic story that goes with the theme of the restaurant (check out their website). They take reservations as well and I definitely suggest making a reservation this spot is popular and for good reason!

Live near by, planning a trip, or just stopping through, The Obstinate Daughter should definitely be on the itinerary!
